Born in Golden, Texas, Kacey began songwriting at the age of eight, when she wrote a song called "Notice Me" for her elementary school graduation. She first learned to play music on the mandolin, and then began at age 12 started taking guitar lessons from a local musician named John DeFoore, which she describes as "one of the most important things that ever happened to me".
Michelle Shocked - traveller, troubadour, a "picker-poet," as they say in Texas. As a young feminist, she left Texas to travel, Kerouac-style, and was caught up in Reagan-era grassroots politics.
Her musical career was ignited by a bootleg recording made around a Kerrville Folk Festival campfire on a Sony Walkman. Released in England as 'The Texas Campfire Tapes' without Shocked's authority, its success abroad enticed Mercury Records to offer the newcomer a recording contract. - "The most sophisticated hillbilly you'll ever meet."
A BMI writer, Beaver wrote/co-wrote every song on his released albums. Beaver co-wrote "Along the Way" and "More Than Willing" with Rob Baird (I Swear It's The Truth released on Carnival Records). He also co-wrote "Day by Day", "Make Or Break Me" and "Leavin' Stephenville" with Kyle Park, the latter two appearing on Park's Make Or Break Me album released in 2011. As of 2012, Beaver is signed to the worldwide publishing company HoriPro Entertainment Group.
